Peter Michael Point Rouge Chardonnay 2008 is a white wine from the Knights Valley in Sonoma County. This 1.5-litre magnum represents the most limited and refined Chardonnay production from the estate, selected from the finest barrels for its exceptional concentration and elegance. The 2008 vintage offers an intense profile of white flowers, mineral oil and tropical fruit, supported by a rich and velvety texture. It displays a perfect harmony between its opulent fruit and a driving, stony acidity. The magnum format provides the ideal environment for this serious wine to develop further nuance, showcasing a level of power and precision that is characteristic of the Peter Michael house style.

Vivid gold. Deeper, smokier and more perfumed than the Indigene, displaying strong mineral, spice and orange pith aromas that gain strength with aeration. Spicy, impressively penetrating citrus and floral flavors are complemented by an exotic, faintly musky note of mace and pick up anise and iodine nuances on the back half. Very rich but almost shockingly lithe, finishing with superb clarity and lingering spiciness.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2010

Peter Michael

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
