The Peter Michael Point Rouge Chardonnay 2003 is a meticulously crafted wine from the Knights Valley AVA in Sonoma County, California. This vintage is produced exclusively from select barrels, derived from the winery`s premier vineyards. The wines undergo natural fermentation using indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels, with a notable portion being new oak. Extended ageing on the lees with regular bâtonnage develops its intricate character. Point Rouge is noted for its complex profile, characterised by ripe fruit, mineral undertones and a structured yet vibrant acidity.

Straw-gold color, the deepest of these 2003 chardonnays. Exotic, superripe aromas of pineapple, dried fruits, butterscotch and honey. Huge, fat and exotic. Initially seemed less shapely than the Cuvee Indigene but with aeration this wine showed more obvious minerality, a strong pineapple flavor and excellent acidity. Even fuller than the Cuvee Indigene and utterly seamless, with uncanny sweetness of fruit. Eighteen barrels were selected from a total of 365, then further reduced to 12.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2005

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
