The Peter Michael Mon Plaisir Chardonnay 2008 is a single-vineyard white wine from the Knights Valley AVA in Sonoma County, California. Sourced exclusively from the Mon Plaisir vineyard, characterised by its high elevation and volcanic soils, this vintage reflects the estate’s commitment to meticulous winemaking. The grapes undergo whole-cluster pressing and fermentation using native yeasts in French oak barrels, with some new oak incorporated. The resulting wine showcases notes of orchard fruits, citrus and subtle toasted elements, balanced by a fresh acidity. Peter Michael Winery, founded in 1980, is known for its Burgundian-inspired techniques.

Greenish gold. Tropical fruits, peach and dusty spices on the nose. Juicy and intensely flavored, with a strong note of toasty lees adding depth to the lively orange and pit fruit flavors. The brisk finish features a refreshingly bitter note of grapefruit pith and clings with very good smoky persistence.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2010

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
