The Peter Michael Cuvée Indigène Chardonnay 2008 originates from the Knights Valley AVA in Sonoma County, California. This wine is produced by Peter Michael Winery, which has been dedicated to expressing terroir through its estate vineyards since 1980. Cuvée Indigène is crafted using 100% natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts, combined with ageing in new French oak that typically extends beyond 16 months. The resulting profile includes notes of citrus, stone fruit and subtle oak influences, supported by a structured acidity and a lingering finish.

Bright yellow-gold. Precise, high-pitched aromas of citrus peel, quinine, white flowers and tarragon. Juicy, fine-grained and youthfully imploded, with silky pear and orange flavors and some youthful acidity accentuating the intensely mineral quality of this pungent wine. Not at all a fleshy style but seriously concentrated. Finishes tight and extremely persistent, with continuing floral and mineral qualities.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2010

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
