The Nuits-St Georges Aux Murgers Sylvain Cathiard 2022 is a significant red Burgundy crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes sourced from the esteemed Aux Murgers Premier Cru vineyard. Located at the northern edge of Nuits-Saint-Georges, this vineyard benefits from optimal terroir that contributes to the wine`s structural integrity. The 2022 growing season in Burgundy was marked by warmth and dryness, leading to grapes with ample ripeness. Sylvain Cathiard, who has continued the family legacy in winemaking, employs meticulous practices, including 100% destemming and a careful approach to oak maturation, to achieve a true expression of this site.

More mineral and vibrant than the Thorey, the 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Murgers reveals aromas of sweet red berries, plums, orange zest and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy palate underpinned by a powdery chassis of tannin that gently asserts itself on the finish. - William Kelley
Vinous
The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Murgers 1er Cru is actually similar to the Aux Thorey on the nose: quite pixelated with vivacious, mineral-rich red fruit exuding transparency. The palate is well-structured and concentrated, with richer black fruit and firm grip. There’s a touch of Asian spice towards the muscular finish (perhaps due to the small berries) - this is a long-term proposition. Fabulous.

Domaine Sylvain Cathiard

This small, family run domaine was first established in the commune of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy by Sylvain Cathiard’s grandfather. Since 2011, following the retirement of Sylvain, the domaine has been run by Sylvain's son, Sébastien Cathiard. Famed for the superb quality Pinot Noir it produces, the domaine has vineyard holdings across Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-St-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny, in addition to tiny holdings in Clos Vougeot and Romanée-St-Vivant.

In the words of esteemed critic, Neal Martin, "“Do I need to tell you how much I adore Sylvain Cathiard’s wines? This is a seriously good quality producer of Vosne-Romanée, one whose star is in the ascendant. These are gloriously silky smooth, complex wines; not just with the top Premier Crus but down to the generic Burgundy. It’s the intensity and focus that set Cathiard apart, wines with supreme definition and purity that seduce the palate like a beautiful courtesan. I would love to taste his Grand Crus, but they are incredibly rare and sought-after. This producer comes highly recommended from top to bottom.”
