Awarded 95 points by Decanter, describing the 2018 vintage as follows, "This stony vineyard tends to produce one of Sébastien Cathiard`s densest, plushest and most concentrated Premier Cru reds. The perfume is very engaging and enticing here, with violet and blackcurrant leaf scents leading you into a palate that is sweetly wooded in 60% new barrels, juicy and well balanced. The tannins are woven into the texture of the wine. Drinking Window 2024 - 2032. (TA)"
Vinous
The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Murgers 1er Cru is more expressive on the nose compared to the Aux Thorey, with sumptuous fruit: cassis, blueberry and raspberry preserve, plus hints of fresh fig in the background. This is an NSG that wants to be noticed. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins and a fine line of acidity. Quite structured, with a dense, rigid finish that (unlike the nose) suggests this should be cellared for several years. Impressive. Neal Martin1st January 2020

Domaine Sylvain Cathiard

Domaine Sylvain Cathiard

This small, family run domaine was first established in the commune of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy by Sylvain Cathiard’s grandfather. Since 2011, following the retirement of Sylvain, the domaine has been run by Sylvain's son, Sébastien Cathiard. Famed for the superb quality Pinot Noir it produces, the domaine has vineyard holdings across Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-St-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny, in addition to tiny holdings in Clos Vougeot and Romanée-St-Vivant.

In the words of esteemed critic, Neal Martin, "“Do I need to tell you how much I adore Sylvain Cathiard’s wines? This is a seriously good quality producer of Vosne-Romanée, one whose star is in the ascendant. These are gloriously silky smooth, complex wines; not just with the top Premier Crus but down to the generic Burgundy. It’s the intensity and focus that set Cathiard apart, wines with supreme definition and purity that seduce the palate like a beautiful courtesan. I would love to taste his Grand Crus, but they are incredibly rare and sought-after. This producer comes highly recommended from top to bottom.”
