Nuits St Georges Aux Murgers 2012 by Sylvain Cathiard is crafted from 50 to 90-year-old vines, reflecting a complex terroir. The nose unveils hints of dark cherry and subtle earthiness, accompanied by faint notes of herbs. On the palate, the wine demonstrates a medium-bodied structure with a refined balance of acidity and tannin. Flavours of plum and forest floor emerge, leading to a lingering finish marked by a hint of spice. Sylvain Cathiard, known for his meticulous vineyard practices, prioritises organic farming, enhancing the wine`s expression of terroir.

Bright red. Black cherry and licorice on the nose. At once opulent and firmly built, showing very good sappy energy to the flavors of dark cherry and graphite minerality. Finishes long and sexy, with a distinctly primary character to its sweet fruit and strong oak tones. This is 13.1% alcohol without chaptalization yet shows no hint of heaviness.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2014

Domaine Sylvain Cathiard

This small, family run domaine was first established in the commune of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy by Sylvain Cathiard’s grandfather. Since 2011, following the retirement of Sylvain, the domaine has been run by Sylvain's son, Sébastien Cathiard. Famed for the superb quality Pinot Noir it produces, the domaine has vineyard holdings across Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-St-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny, in addition to tiny holdings in Clos Vougeot and Romanée-St-Vivant.

In the words of esteemed critic, Neal Martin, "“Do I need to tell you how much I adore Sylvain Cathiard’s wines? This is a seriously good quality producer of Vosne-Romanée, one whose star is in the ascendant. These are gloriously silky smooth, complex wines; not just with the top Premier Crus but down to the generic Burgundy. It’s the intensity and focus that set Cathiard apart, wines with supreme definition and purity that seduce the palate like a beautiful courtesan. I would love to taste his Grand Crus, but they are incredibly rare and sought-after. This producer comes highly recommended from top to bottom.”
