Based in Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet produces some of the most coveted wines from the Côte d`Or. Founder Étienne Camuzet was both a vigneron as well as a dedicated politician who spent most of his time in Paris. Today, Méo-Camuzet covers approximately 14 hectares of vines in very prestigious appellations in Burgundy. Since 1989, the estate has been overseen by Jean-Nicolas Méo, who also looks after Nicolas-Jay estate in Oregon. This release comes from the Domaine’s parcel in Aux Murgers, where the vines were planted between 1965 and 1972. 2008 was largely a very good vintage for Burgundy, with both reds and whites exhibiting rich, exotic fruit.

Medium red. Reticent nose hints at red cherry, spices and iron. A sweet, supple midweight in the mouth, showing its spicy oak component but not at all hard. A second barrel showed more fruit and less wood, as well as lowish acidity, which is not a bad thing for a 2008.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2010
