The 2008 Mazis-Chambertin from Confuron-Cotetidot is a Grand Cru red Burgundy produced exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes sourced from the Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin. Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot, a family-run estate known for its traditional winemaking approach, cultivates approximately 0.30 hectares here, featuring old vines that enhance the depth of flavour. The wine reveals a complex bouquet of dark cherry and blackcurrant, intertwined with earthy notes and a touch of spice. Its palate reflects concentrated fruit, firm tannins and good acidity, culminating in a lengthy mineral finish, indicative of its ageing potential.

(13.3% natural alcohol) Good medium red. Compelling, nuanced aromas of raspberry, smoky underbrush, game, minerals and dried rose. Dense and ripe, with sappy, peppery notes that really vibrate in the mouth. There's a sexy, savory umami quality and captivating soil tones here that really caught my attention. Serious tannins are hidden today but will require extended cellaring. The early malo makes this easier to taste today than a number of Confuron's other cuveesStephen Tanzer1st March 2010
