Château Lynch-Bages is one of the finest producers in the Pauillac appellation, known for making wines that combine structure and elegance. Since 1939, the estate has been successfully run by the Cazes family, who also owns other properties in Bordeaux as well as in other regions of France and in Portugal. The 2000 vintage is a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, offering a full-bodied yet delightfully silky profile, with pure notes of cassis, mulberry, tobacco, cedar and graphite. Though now beginning to really hit its stride, this should still continue to evolve nicely over the next decade.

Deep ruby, softening in colour around the rim, packed with pencil lead, cigar box, slate, mint leaf, chewy tannins, great quality with an innate confidence. Has walls to scale, and a ton of life ahead, an exceptionally enjoyable 2000 vintage that remains young. 70% new oak.Jane Anson6th April 2022

The 2000 Lynch-Bages is well defined on the nose with blackberry, cedar, humidor and crushed rose petals, one of the most elegant of this era. There is real pedigree here, obviously from a benevolent growing season. The palate is harmonious and framed by fine-boned tannins, the acidity well judged. It is not a powerful Lynch-Bages but has an appealing sense of symmetry and poise. Drinking beautifully now. Tasted blind at the Lynch-Bages vertical at the château. Neal Martin1st July 2023

Deep crimson with some slight chestnut tones. Intense and spicy. Exotic cocktail. Petit Mouton-like! Aromatic and piercing. Rich and velvety on the nose. Good mix of ripeness and refreshment. Dry finish, but an explosive, rich start. Surely Lynch. Round and seductive. Ripe tannins underneath. Very deep phenolics. An early drinker. (JR)

The Modern Pauillac

Situated in the celebrated Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux, Château Lynch Bages uses around 60% of its 100 hectares to produce its first wine (a 5th growth in the 1855 classification) in addition to producing a second red, Echo de Lynch Bages. These wines display superb Cabernet Sauvignon character, together with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the blend. A wonderful example of the power and elegance of truly great Pauillac: gloriously supple and smooth with a tannic backbone.

A white wine, known as Blanc de Lynch Bages, is also produced in very small quantities. Made from an elegant blend of the classic white Bordeaux varietals, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle, the resulting wines display exhilarating freshness and dried apricot complexity.
