Classified as a Fifth Growth in 1855, Château Lynch-Bages is one of the most admired wine producers in the Médoc. Owned by the Cazes family since the 1930s, the 90-hectare estate is currently managed by Jean-Charles Cazes. This release is the 2003 vintage of its flagship wine, a blend composed of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Expect an opulent and full-bodied wine, boasting velvety tannins and a seductive finish.

Retaining a deep ruby colour even at 19 years old, impressive from a such a hot vintage. The tannins are a little sombre, but this has plenty of Pauillac signature, with clear graphite, slate, cassis, and an enjoyably juicy finish. I've found a few 2003s that are tasting great in this corner of the Médoc, which is not the case all over Bordeaux, and this is one to enjoy now and over the next decade. 70% new oak.Jane Anson6th April 2022

The 2003 Lynch Bages has a precocious bouquet with bold, perhaps slightly monolithic licorice-infused black fruit, touches of camphor and pencil shavings that emerge with time. The palate is dense and powerful with weighty, slightly glossy black fruit. Not a complex Lynch-Bages, it is missing a bit of freshness and tension that urges you back for another sip. Drink over the next decade. Tasted at the château.Neal Martin1st August 2023

The Modern Pauillac

Situated in the celebrated Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux, Château Lynch Bages uses around 60% of its 100 hectares to produce its first wine (a 5th growth in the 1855 classification) in addition to producing a second red, Echo de Lynch Bages. These wines display superb Cabernet Sauvignon character, together with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the blend. A wonderful example of the power and elegance of truly great Pauillac: gloriously supple and smooth with a tannic backbone.

A white wine, known as Blanc de Lynch Bages, is also produced in very small quantities. Made from an elegant blend of the classic white Bordeaux varietals, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle, the resulting wines display exhilarating freshness and dried apricot complexity.
