Laville Haut Brion Blanc 2007 presents a blend of 55% Semillon and 45% Sauvignon Blanc, reflecting the distinctive terroir of Pessac-Léognan. The nose offers defined scents of green apple, pear and subtle herbal notes, leading to a palate characterised by precision and balance. Flavours of lemon zest and white peach emerge, accompanied by a mineral backbone that conveys the site`s limestone soil. The finish is clean and lengthy, showcasing the wine`s age-worthy potential. Produced by the esteemed Château Haut-Brion, one of the oldest classified growths in Bordeaux, Laville Haut Brion exemplifies refined winemaking traditions.

The 2007 Laville Haut-Brion Blanc is a vintage I have not tasted for some time. It has a neutral nose at first, displaying just a negligible touch of oxidation. Damp straw commingles with yellow plum, granite and apple peel aromas. The palate is, again, surprisingly neutral, quite nutty and smoky, cohering nicely over the course of our lunch. It’s not bad, but not the best that I have tasted from this now-defunct estate. Tasted at the WIMPS X-mas lunch at La Trompette.Neal Martin25th March 2025

82% Sémillon, 18% Sauvignon Blanc but it tastes much more like a Sauvignon than a Sémillon. Very ripe and ample on the nose. Menthol and a hint of blackcurrant leaf. Very dry finish. Lots of astringency and powerful Sauvignon-like characteristics. Super fresh and vibrant with a only light undertow of lemony weight. Racy rather than fat. Sharp and refreshing. Much more complex and spicy than a regular oaked Sauvignon/Sémillon blend, for example, but not the richest vintage for Laville – a slightly slimline bitter lemon of a wine. Very tight but light too. Long Lived Reds and Whites

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the preeminent estates in the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is renowned for producing exceptionally concentrated and long-lived wines. The prestigious first label, La Mission Haut-Brion, is a near equal blend of Cabernet and Merlot, giving wonderfully focused wines with bramble and floral character. This illustrious estate also produces a stellar second label, La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion.

Two beautiful whites are made: La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc, which is a aromatic, Sémillon-dominant blend with beautiful citrus and stone fruit, and a second white, La Clarté de Haut Brion (which also takes grapes from the Château Haut-Brion estate).
