Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the preeminent estates in Graves, Pessac-Léognan and is renowned for producing exceptionally concentrated, complex and long-lived wines. From the sublime 2009 vintage, this is widely regarded as one of the finest ever releases from this estate and has been awarded a perfect 100-point score by The Wine Advocate on no fewer than three occasions.

Generous yet contained, this is as broad-shouldered and muscular as you might expect from a vintage where everything went right during the growing season, showing a velvety finesse to its tannins. It has fully settled into its drinking window at this point, while still offering plenty of primary character to the grilled plum and black cherry fruit alongside capsicum pepper, turmeric spice, incense, olive tapenade, kirsch, cocoa bean and liquorice. 77% new oak for ageing. The 2009 La Mission Haut-Brion has a very harmonious bouquet with detailed blackberry, raspberry, warm gravel and hints of leather, gaining intensity with aeration. The warmth of the summer comes through, although it does not impede upon the terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, not quite as finessed as the nose suggest. Hints of juniper and bay leaf infuse the melted red fruit towards the persistent finish, though it does not deliver the killer knockout blow. Very seductive though. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting. Neal Martin1st March 2019

Long Lived Reds and Whites

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the preeminent estates in the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is renowned for producing exceptionally concentrated and long-lived wines. The prestigious first label, La Mission Haut-Brion, is a near equal blend of Cabernet and Merlot, giving wonderfully focused wines with bramble and floral character. This illustrious estate also produces a stellar second label, La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion.

Two beautiful whites are made: La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc, which is a aromatic, Sémillon-dominant blend with beautiful citrus and stone fruit, and a second white, La Clarté de Haut Brion (which also takes grapes from the Château Haut-Brion estate).
