Joseph Phelps Insignia 2007 is a full-bodied Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley, California. The family-run Joseph Phelps Vineyards was founded in 1973. Over more than four decades, Joe Phelps has transformed the winery into a Californian icon which consistently produces critically acclaimed wines - the proprietary Insignia red being the prime example. This wine was first produced in 1974 and has received four perfect 100-point scores from Robert Parker (for the 1991, 1997, 2002 and 2007 vintages).

The 2009 vintage displays a structured profile with balanced tannins and acidity, allowing for a focused expression of its terroir. 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot, with notes of cassis, plum and baked plum followed up by just the right amount of cigar box and flint.

94 Vinous
Saturated bright ruby. Cassis, black cherry, mocha, graphite, dark chocolate and violet on the nose. Enters the mouth with a flavor of dark chocolate, then utterly silky and smooth in the mid-palate, delivering concentrated, deep flavors of black fruits and licorice complicated by minerals, violet and dark chocolate. If this wine does not yet show quite the personality or definition of the '07, it finishes pure and extremely long, with substantial fully buffered tannins and an element of medicinal reserve. This really fills the mouth without leaving any impression of heaviness. I suspect that there's still more positive bottle development ahead for this beauty,Stephen Tanzer1st July 2019

Innovation and Quality in Napa

Founded in 1973, Joseph Phelps Vineyards is family-owned winery celebrated for its commitment to crafting world-class, estate grown wines from Napa Valley and the Sonoma Coast. Joe Phelps was a building contractor from Colorado who began investing in Napa Valley vineyards in the early 1970s, producing the first vintage of his now-famous "Insignia" in 1974 - one of the first super premium Bordeaux blends from Napa.

The current winemaker is Ashley Hepworth, who initially joined Joseph Phelps in 1999 as an intern. Alongside Insignia, Ashley and the team also make a number of varietal wines with the Freestone Vineyards Chardonnay being a notable high point.
