Joseph Phelps Insignia 2007 is a full-bodied Bordeaux-style red wine from Napa. The nose presents aromas of blackberry, dried herbs and a hint of earthiness, complemented by nuances of leather, cedar and dark chocolate. On the palate, this full-bodied blend, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, showcases a balance between ripe fruit and acidity, supported by a firm yet velvety tannin structure. The finish displays lingering notes of spice and mocha. Joseph Phelps Winery, founded in 1973, was one of the early proponents of Bordeaux-style blends in California.
96 Vinous
(14.5% alcohol): Saturated dark ruby! Ripe but reticent aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, bitter chocolate oak, licorice and mocha are very subtle and complex. Wonderfully pliant and balanced wine, with plush purple fruit and violet flavors displaying a smooth grain and superb depth. Spreads out to saturate the middle palate and builds slowly and inexorably on the aftertaste. This fully ripe, complete wine finishes with stylish tannins and outstanding length. There may still be more fireworks ahead for this beauty.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2017

Innovation and Quality in Napa

Founded in 1973, Joseph Phelps Vineyards is family-owned winery celebrated for its commitment to crafting world-class, estate grown wines from Napa Valley and the Sonoma Coast. Joe Phelps was a building contractor from Colorado who began investing in Napa Valley vineyards in the early 1970s, producing the first vintage of his now-famous "Insignia" in 1974 - one of the first super premium Bordeaux blends from Napa.

The current winemaker is Ashley Hepworth, who initially joined Joseph Phelps in 1999 as an intern. Alongside Insignia, Ashley and the team also make a number of varietal wines with the Freestone Vineyards Chardonnay being a notable high point.
