Château Gazin-Rocquencourt 2009 is a Pessac-Léognan blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot. The 2009 growing season is considered a truly rare and exceptional quality vintage in Bordeaux due to the ideal combination of a warm August and sunny September which allowed for full phenolic ripeness and high sugar accumulation. This wine was aged for 12 months in 35% new French oak and reflects the ripeness of the year with a final alcohol of 14%. The palate is characterised by dark berry fruit, cedar and tobacco with the refined tannic structure associated with the estate`s gravelly terroir.

Spicy, tobacco-laced red and black currants jump from the glass of this medium-bodied, elegant, yet flavorful and silky smooth Pessac-Leognan. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.

There is flesh and substance here. Some succulence. Good balance! Freshness and ripeness. No great intensity but at least there is balance and the promise of something even better in the future. Very drying on the finish though. (JR)
