`Domaine de Chevalier 1998 is a mature Left Bank Bordeaux red wine from Pessac-Léognan. Domaine de Chevalier is a prestigious wine estate in the Pessac-Léognan appellation of the Graves region. The winery and vineyards are located south of the city of Bordeaux, in the commune of Léognan. This release is the 1998 vintage of its flagship wine. "Licorice, blackberry, grilled meat and lightly toasted oak. Turns to flowers. Full-bodied, with very silky tannins, pretty fruit and a delicate finish. Fabulous nose, but more reserved on the finish." Wine Spectator, 2009

The 1998 Domaine de Chevalier has a bright blackberry- and blueberry-scented bouquet. It’s opulent in the context of the vintage, though it doesn't quite deliver the complexity that Olivier Bernard imparts into his wine nowadays. The palate is quite rounded and sensual on the entry with veins of blue fruit. This is quite polished in style with a more extracted, glossy finish than you would find nowadays. It’s quite delicious, but perhaps falls short of my expectations. Tasted at the Complete Bordeaux Tasting dinner at Hedonism.
