Domaine de Chevalier, a prestigious Grand Cru Classé estate in Pessac-Léognan, is renowned for its exceptional red and white wines. The 1983 vintage has gracefully matured, revealing enticing aromas of fallen leaves, earthy mushrooms, hints of bramble, and semi-dried plum, complemented by notes of raspberry, leather, cedar, and a subtle metallic nuance. On the palate, the wine displays a tangy juiciness with cranberry notes and a gentle tannic presence in the mid-palate.

The 1983 Domaine de Chevalier is one of the most seductive, elegant, and compelling wines made at this estate in the last 20 years. It has developed beautifully, as evidenced by my tasting notes that continue to exhibit more enthusiasm as the wine has gotten older. Fully mature, it is a beautiful, stylish Graves loaded with smoky, curranty, spicy aromas and flavors. The epitome of elegance and finesse, it manages to brilliantly pair richness with delicacy. It should continue to drink well for another 10-15 years. Last tasted, 7/93.Robert Parker23rd August 1993

The 1983 Domaine de Chevalier sported a touch of VA on the nose, though the cannot of been any provenance issue as this bottle was whisked up directly from the château's cellar. The aromatics seem fully mature with sandalwood, cinnamon, clove, dark berry fruit and touches of gravel. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, crisp acidity and a slight astringency on the mid-palate. Still, a lovely pastille-like finish curiously echoes a fine Burgundy! Drinking perfectly now.
