Corton-Charlemagne Georges Roumier 2009 is a Grand Cru Burgundy Chardonnay produced by Domaine Georges Roumier. Domaine Georges Roumier is an iconic Burgundy estate based in Chambolle-Musigny, most famous for its exquisite Pinot Noirs, particularly from Grand Crus like Bonnes-Mares and Musigny, and Premier Cru Les Amoureuses. While their white wine production is minuscule by comparison, their Corton-Charlemagne is considered equally exceptional and highly sought-after. This is rare bottling from the excellent 2009 Burgundy vintage.

The 2009 Corton-Charlemagne melds gorgeous textural richness and depth with a vibrant expression of fruit that shows considerable freshness. The wine turns increasingly explosive on the palate as the fruit continues to emerge. All of the elements build nicely to the intense, totally alive finish. Roumier’s parcel is on the western edges of Charlemagne, near Pernand-Vergelesses. Anticipated maturity. 2014-2019. - Antonio Galloni

The 2009 Corton-Charlemagne, always a middle of the road performer at the domaine, was surprisingly outstanding, and had no problem being served after the two flagship grand crus. Stylistically, Roumier has worked to give the wine more focus and delineation, and that served him very well in 2009. Rich and textured, the Corton-Charlemagne, deftly balanced the generosity of the year with plenty of vibrant, incisive minerality.Antonio Galloni1st February 2012

Racked and in inox at the time of tasting. Very savoury and charming. MLF finished in June 2010. Rather golden, even soft, and ready to gobble. Lively and tense and racy and with lovely depth – much less sweet than most even if a bit more forward than some. Nice restraint. (JR)

A Icon of Fine Burgundy

One of Burgundy's most famous producers - founded in 1924 by Georges Roumier, the domaine was passed to his son Jean-Marie in 1957 and eventually on to his grandson Christophe in the early 1990s. Vines are either rented from family members or managed on a share-cropping basis and the cellar team operate a dynamic approach to winemaking, subtly altering their techniques depending on the vineyard and vintage. Some fruit is fully destemmed before fermentation while some is partially destemmed. A cool maceration takes place before fermentation, which takes place in wooden vats, and punch downs happen twice a day. Use of new oak is judicious - only around 20% for the village wines, 35% for the Premier Crus and 50% for the Grand Crus.

If Georges Roumier only produced Chambolle-Musigny, Bonnes Mares and Clos St Denis, the winery would still be considered one of the greatest in Burgundy, but their other-worldly Musigny Grand Cru elevates their status among the great wineries of France to legendary.
