Domaine Trimbach Clos St Hune Riesling 2008 is a single-vineyard dry Riesling from the Alsace region of northern France. Located in the village of Ribeauvillé, Trimbach is one of the most historic winemaking families in Alsace. The estate is now run by the 12th generation of the family, Pierre and Jean. Trimbach is renowned for its restrained, energetic style of Alsatian white wine (`Protestant` rather than `Catholic` is how the family would describe it). In particular the family`s Rieslings possess a laser-like acidity and restrained complexity which may only be revealed slowly over many years of bottle age. "A classic Alsace Riesling in a steely style, yet shows lovely integration and accessibility, with the dense midpalate and creamy texture carrying flavors of white peach, crushed pine and beeswax. A pronounced streak of petrol-accented minerality echoes on the long, focused finish." Wine Spectator, 2017

Pale yellow-green. Vibrant aromas of mirabelle, lemon, crushed stone and fresh herbs, with a nuance of Chablis-like oyster shell. Densely packed and youthfully closed, even austere, but hints at lovely high notes of jasmine, lemon verbena and lichee. Wonderfully stylish and intense in the mouth, closing long and precise, with orange zest, mineral and spice notes. This will evolve gracefully for a long time.Ian d'Agata1st February 2016

The combination of smoky pungency and citric brightness of Trimbach’s 2008 Riesling Clos Ste-Hune is almost eye-wateringly intense – and that’s just on inhaling! In the mouth, the dynamic interplay of energetic, efficacious citrus and white currant with chalk, salt, crushed stone, and apricot kernel will keep you stimulated and intrigued long after the flavors have faded, and that is already a long time. This buoyant, handsomely austere Ste-Hune will not require recharging over the next couple of decades, and in time should put on a truly spectacular display.

“The oenologists were saying in 2009 ‘Oh we have to get approval so that we can add acidity,’ but it was absolutely unnecessary, for us,” notes Pierre Trimbach, who indeed delivered a surprisingly animated collection, albeit one diminished in size by instances of declassification. The Trimbachs compare their 2008s with 1998, adding that there is something of 2001 to them, too. As a group, they are going to further the reputation of wines from this family for rewarding patience.
