Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes Janasse 2009 is a full-bodied blended red wine from the southern Rhône Valley. It is crafted from a selection of old vines, predominantly planted on a mix of clay, sandy soils and `galets rouléts`, or rolled pebbles, contributing to its structure and depth. The maceration extends for 28 days, utilising daily punch-down techniques to enhance tannin extraction. Aged in foudres and demi-muids, the wine presents flavours of dark fruit, herbs and subtle spice.

Vinous
(85% grenache, with mourvedre and syrah): Deep, bright-rimmed ruby. A complex, intensely perfumed bouquet displays scents of black and blue fruits, incense and anise, with bright overlay of smoky minerality. Rich as well as vibrant, with impressive depth and energy to its blackberry and cherry compote flavors. Closes on a spicy note, with excellent clarity and resonating spiciness.Josh Raynolds1st January 2012
