Domaine de la Mordorée La Reine des Bois 2004 is a prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape renowned for its modern, polished style and impressive concentration. This vintage offers a sophisticated nose of crème de cassis, graphite and woodsmoke, supported by a full-bodied and ripened palate. While 2004 was a more temperate year than the preceding heatwave, this cuvée retains a luxurious, velvety texture and deep ink-ruby colour. It has matured into a complex, harmonious spirituous red that showcases the late Christophe Delorme’s mastery of the Grenache grape.

Deep ruby. Explosively ripe, pungent aromas of blackcurrant, boysenberry, candied licorice, vanilla and exotic spices. Lush, supple and very sweet, with deeply concentrated, almost liqueur-like dark fruit flavors, supple tannins and a good dose of oak spice. Undeniably suave and appealing (lovers of new oak may rate this higher than I do) but I wonder what it would have been like with a bit less coconutty oak.Josh Raynolds1st January 2007
