Vintage 2004

In France, Champagne was probably the highlight of an otherwise distinctly average 2004 vintage, in which a cool summer produced wines that lacked the structure for long-term ageing. Bursts of hail compounded the difficulties of the 2004 vintage in Burgundy. A warm, sunny September rescued the vintage further south, where Southern Rhône wines, particularly Châteauneuf-du-Pape, fared best.
