Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2007 is a full-bodied, blended red wine from the southern Rhône Valley. Château de Beaucastel is one of the oldest and finest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. 1989 saw the debut release of the flagship wine, Hommage à Jacques Perrin, which is only made in the best years and has production of around 350 cases on average. "The star of the show was the 2007 Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage À Jacques Perrin, which in this vintage is a classic blend of 60% Mourvedre, 20% Syrah, and the rest Counoise and Grenache. Inky coloured and insanely perfumed, with to-die-for notes of lavender, Provencal herbs, roasted meats, black cherries, truffle, crème de cassis and liquorice, it flows onto the palate with massive concentration, a stunning mid-palate and a thick, rich texture that never gets heavy or cumbersome. This is blockbuster stuff that just could not get any better. Drink it anytime over the coming 3-4 decades." 100 points, Wine Advocate, 2015

(based on 70% mourvedre) Opaque ruby color. Remarkably complex bouquet of dark berry compote, potpourri, sandalwood, smoked meat and licorice, complemented by a smoky mineral overtone. Broad, palate-coating dark fruit flavors pick up notes of candied flowers and licorice with air and show a pungent Indian spice character. Becomes more floral with air and leaves sweet cherry and floral pastille notes behind. I'd buy all of this that I could afford.Josh Raynolds1st January 2010
