Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2004 is a full-bodied blended red wine from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation of the southern Rhône Valley. The flagship wine of the domaine, Hommage à Jacques Perrin was first produced in 1989 as a tribute to the late Jacques Perrin. It is only made in exceptional years, principally using old-vine Mourvèdre from the Perrin family`s Courrieux vineyard. "The potentially perfect 2004 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin has turned out to be just an amazing wine and one of the profound examples of this cuvee the Perrins have produced. It certainly has all the power, density, and richness of the great years, but there is almost a surreal elegance and lightness for a wine this powerful and dense. Almost difficult to describe, the gorgeous multi-layered texture, and the heavenly perfume of smoked meats, flowers, blueberries, blackberries, creosote, and truffles is a knock-out. In the mouth, it is medium to full-bodied with incredible intensity, purity, and overall symmetry." Wine Advocate, 2007

Saturated ruby. Remarkably deep nose combines cherry, raspberry, licorice, smoked meat and mineral notes, all lifted by an intense floral quality. A stunning example of freshness and precision married to power, with deep cassis, bitter cherry and candied licorice flavors enlivened by zesty minerality and framed by firm but harmonious tannins. This is not about extraction, notes Perrin. The endless finish echoes the mineral and floral tones, showing a persistent lavender note. This was not yet bottled when I tasted it.Josh Raynolds1st January 2007
