Châteauneuf-du-Pape Barbe Rac by Chapoutier 2008 is a blend predominantly sourced from Grenache, along with Syrah and Mourvèdre, reflecting the traditional varietals of the region. The wine exhibits a deep ruby color with a slightly murky appearance, typical of wines from this AOC. On the nose, it offers ripe black fruits, hints of garrigue, and subtle spices, alongside earthy undertones. Notably, the wine showcases its aging potential with mild leather and tobacco notes that emerge with time.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a noticeable acidity that provides balance. Flavors of dark cherries, plums, and black olives are prominent, complemented by a slight herbal quality. With an alcohol content around 14%, it finishes on a savory note, presenting a lengthy aftertaste that invites further exploration. This vintage is often appreciated for its structure and complexity, reflecting the terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and its renowned ability to produce age-worthy, complex wines.

Passion and Drive

One of the oldest producers in the Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier was established in 1808. The arrival of a young Michel Chapoutier, who took over management of the family domaine in 1990, saw huge changes and a renewed drive for excellence, focussing especially on the diverse terroir of the Rhône. Michel has embraced biodynamic practices in recent years and attributes much of the increase in quality to this approach. The wines are generous and fruit-forward at the entry level, moving towards the sublime as we move up the quality ladder.

Two of the greatest wines in the portfolio are 'De L'Orée', an Hermitage Blanc made from 100% Marsanne and 'Le Pavillon', a full-bodied, expressive Hermitage rouge that effortlessly rubs shoulders with the world's greatest Syrah.
