Sylvain Cathiard Chambolle-Musigny Les Clos de L’Orme 2003 is a village-level red Burgundy produced from a vineyard site situated on the border of the Premier Cru belt. This wine was shaped by a historic summer heatwave that caused the Pinot Noir grapes to reach unusually high sugar levels with very low total acidity. The result is a wine with a deep colour and a flavour profile of baked black fruits and raisins which differs from the fresh red fruit typical of this appellation. Cathiard’s use of new oak adds a woody spice that complements the concentrated fruit.

Domaine Sylvain Cathiard

This small, family run domaine was first established in the commune of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy by Sylvain Cathiard’s grandfather. Since 2011, following the retirement of Sylvain, the domaine has been run by Sylvain's son, Sébastien Cathiard. Famed for the superb quality Pinot Noir it produces, the domaine has vineyard holdings across Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-St-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny, in addition to tiny holdings in Clos Vougeot and Romanée-St-Vivant.

In the words of esteemed critic, Neal Martin, "“Do I need to tell you how much I adore Sylvain Cathiard’s wines? This is a seriously good quality producer of Vosne-Romanée, one whose star is in the ascendant. These are gloriously silky smooth, complex wines; not just with the top Premier Crus but down to the generic Burgundy. It’s the intensity and focus that set Cathiard apart, wines with supreme definition and purity that seduce the palate like a beautiful courtesan. I would love to taste his Grand Crus, but they are incredibly rare and sought-after. This producer comes highly recommended from top to bottom.”
