Barolo Cerequio 2000 is a plush and hedonistic expression of the Cerequio terroir from Roberto Voerzio, benefitting from a warm and consistent growing season. The early flowering and hot August of 2000 resulted in fruit with softer tannins and more immediate aromatic appeal than the more austere 2001 vintage. Voerzio’s signature low yields of 500 grams per vine ensure that the wine maintains a high level of extract despite the warmer year. The profile features ripe plum, espresso and roses, with a generous mouthfeel and a long, spice-tinged finish. While Voerzio`s wines are typically built for the long haul, the 2000 vintage offers a more open-knit and accessible character that showcases the opulent side of La Morra. It is a luxurious, well-built Barolo that has reached its peak of drinkability.

The 2000 Barolo Cerequio is one of my all-time favorite wines from Roberto Voerzio. Sadly, I haven’t had the discipline to keep my hands off the bottles, but I am not the least bit sorry, because they have all been breathtaking. The 2000 Cerequio blossoms on the palate with a burst of small red berries, followed by sweet spices, freshly cut roses, mint and eucalyptus. It possesses gorgeous inner perfume and the silkiest of tannins. The 2000 remains remarkably fresh, with just the faintest signs of early tertiary development. This is for me the reference-point wine from the Cerequio vineyard. Anticipated maturity. 2012-2030. - Antonio Galloni
