The Madrona Ranch blend comes from a single vineyard at the base of Spring Mountain, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Enticing aromas of dark cherry jam, plums, dark chocolate, menthol, liquorice and spices give the 2008 vintage its distinctive character. The tannins are well-integrated and slightly sweet. One of the finest wines from David Abreu.

The 2008 Madrona Ranch is a dark, beguiling beauty. Deep, textured and nuanced, the 2008 possesses tremendous richness and striking inner perfume. Super-ripe dark cherry jam, plum, chocolate, menthol, licorice and torrefaction are some of the notes that give the 2008 its distinctive personality. The tannins are present, but also impeccably balanced in this sumptuous, racy wine. Time in the glass brings out the wine’s inner sweetness. Even so, the 2008 Madrona remains a decidedly potent, brooding wine. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot, with the Franc very much in evidence.Antonio Galloni1st May 2018

Terroir Driven Cabernet Sauvignon

David Abreu established his eponymous winery in the 1980s, purchasing the Madrona Ranch and converting it into a mix of farmland and vineyards. The Thorevilos and Capella vineyards were added a few years later and Las Posadas, a Howell Mountain vineyard, was added to the estate's holdings in the year 2000. The result is something quite unique in Napa - a collection of distinct sites all producing world class, terroir-driven Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winemaker for the last 20 years is former chef turned viticulturist Brad Grimes. Brad keeps the focus of the estate firmly set on the founder's original goal - to emulate the finest wines of Pauillac and Margaux. Based on the long waiting list and never-ended near-perfect critic scores, he's hit a home run in that department.
