Based in Napa Valley, Abreu Vineyards is a highly regarded wine producer focused on Cabernet-driven blends. The estate was founded by David Abreu in the 1980s and consists of four vineyards. Madrona Ranch, Las Posadas, Thorevilo and Capella. This release is the 2007 vintage from Howell Mountain – now labelled as Las Posadas – which is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Expect a dense but approachable blend, boasting notes of blueberries, crème de cassis, violets, light tobacco and chalky minerality.

Abreu’s 2007 Howell Mountain (known today as Las Posadas) shows the pedigree of this site in spades. A classic Howell Mountain wine, the 2007 offers fabulous depth and striking inner sweetness, along with remarkable translucence. Graphite, smoke, licorice, plum, lavender, wild flowers and crème de cassis add nuance throughout, but it is the wine’s balance that is truly remarkable. The 2007 was made entirely from the lower section of the vineyard, which was planted in 2002. The 2007 is gorgeous today and will drink well for another decade plus. This is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Merlot.Antonio Galloni1st June 2017

Terroir Driven Cabernet Sauvignon

David Abreu established his eponymous winery in the 1980s, purchasing the Madrona Ranch and converting it into a mix of farmland and vineyards. The Thorevilos and Capella vineyards were added a few years later and Las Posadas, a Howell Mountain vineyard, was added to the estate's holdings in the year 2000. The result is something quite unique in Napa - a collection of distinct sites all producing world class, terroir-driven Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winemaker for the last 20 years is former chef turned viticulturist Brad Grimes. Brad keeps the focus of the estate firmly set on the founder's original goal - to emulate the finest wines of Pauillac and Margaux. Based on the long waiting list and never-ended near-perfect critic scores, he's hit a home run in that department.
