Cathiard-Molinier Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Les Suchots 1978 is a Pinot Noir from the largest Premier Cru in the village, situated between the Grand Crus of Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Échezeaux. This bottle comes from the era before the domaine was renamed Sylvain Cathiard, a period known for its traditional and long-lived winemaking style. The 1978 vintage is legendary in Burgundy, producing wines with concentration and a perfect balance of fruit and acidity. This 48-year-old wine has developed into a multifaceted masterpiece of secondary and tertiary aromas, including dried rose petals, oriental spices, forest floor and kirsch. The palate is exceptionally silky and resolved, showcasing the incredible depth and persistence that only the finest old-vine Burgundy from a top vintage can achieve.

Domaine Sylvain Cathiard

This small, family run domaine was first established in the commune of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy by Sylvain Cathiard’s grandfather. Since 2011, following the retirement of Sylvain, the domaine has been run by Sylvain's son, Sébastien Cathiard. Famed for the superb quality Pinot Noir it produces, the domaine has vineyard holdings across Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-St-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny, in addition to tiny holdings in Clos Vougeot and Romanée-St-Vivant.

In the words of esteemed critic, Neal Martin, "“Do I need to tell you how much I adore Sylvain Cathiard’s wines? This is a seriously good quality producer of Vosne-Romanée, one whose star is in the ascendant. These are gloriously silky smooth, complex wines; not just with the top Premier Crus but down to the generic Burgundy. It’s the intensity and focus that set Cathiard apart, wines with supreme definition and purity that seduce the palate like a beautiful courtesan. I would love to taste his Grand Crus, but they are incredibly rare and sought-after. This producer comes highly recommended from top to bottom.”
