`Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée Les Genaivrières 2009 is a single-vineyard Burgundy Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits. To many Burgundy lovers, Domaine Leroy represents the apogée of Burgundy wine. Located in the heart of Vosne-Romanée, the domaine is owned by Lalou Bize-Leroy, the legendary entrepreneur, winemaker and `Grande Dame of Burgundy`. Her uncompromising focus on the vineyards - implementing biodynamic farming practices and gradually reducing yields to as little as 16hl/ha - is thought to be behind the extraordinary concentration of the domaine`s wines. This cuvée comes from a 1.23ha single vineyard situated in Vosne-Romanée. Though modestly classified as a village level, the wine is on par with many Vosne-Romanée Premiers Crus. "The 2009 Vosne-Romanee Aux Genaivrieres opens with delicate spice notes, then explodes on the mid-palate with waves of flavour. Sweet crushed rose petal notes develop in the glass, weaving through the eternal finish. This is a gorgeous, fleshy wine graced with exquisite class. I especially like the way the Genaivrières fleshes out on the finish. Frankly, its hard to move on to the next wine after this." Wine Advocate, 2011

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
