Domaine Leroy was formed in 1988 when the legendary Lalou Bize-Leroy acquired the estate of Charles Noëllat in Vosne-Romanée and subsequently Philippe-Rémy’s property in Gevrey-Chambertin. Today, it covers approximately 23 hectares, including key parcels in nine Grands Crus and eight Premier Crus. This release comes from the premier cru Les Beaux Monts, which is located north of Richebourg and Aux Brûlées. This is the largest holding owned by Lalou Bize-Leroy with 2.61 hectares of vines. Despite the dramatic heatwaves, the 2003 vintage produced surprisingly good wines which are now at their peak.

Deep ruby-red. Slightly reduced, reserved nose hints at superripe dark fruits and roasted nuts. Extremely ripe but a bit youthfully stunted, with slightly roasted, chocolatey flavor. Solid and chewy, but not revealing its personality today. Finishes with substantial tannins. Today I don't find a lot of verve.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2005

Domaine Leroy

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
