Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 2008 from Domaine Dujac is a Premier Cru red Burgundy, crafted from Pinot Noir in a site that borders the Echezeaux Grand Cru. Domaine Dujac employs a high percentage of whole bunches during fermentation. The cooler 2008 vintage resulted in wines known for their bright acidity and purity. This offering is delicate yet complex, exhibiting a signature Dujac perfume of red cherry, raspberry leaf, anise and a pronounced floral lift. The palate is medium bodied, showcasing fine, integrated tannins and a clear mineral streak, with the persistent acidity providing a vibrant, lengthy finish.

Still in barrel when I last tasted it, the Dujac 2008 Vosne-Romanee Beaux Monts mingles black pepper, clove, and star anise with ripe cassis in a forceful if somewhat reductive display, full of primary fruit juiciness and lip-smacking as well as pungently invigorating in finish. There is a density as well as a tight grain to the tannin here that promises serious aging potential – a wine one might want to plan on enjoying at between 7 and 10-12 years of age, though it is not – yet, at least – refined or elegant. - David Schildknecht

A Focus on Terroir

Founded in the late 1960s by Jacques Seysses, who purchased and renovated Domaine Graillet in Morey-St-Denis. The estate is currently run by Jacques' sons Jeremy and Alec, who farm around 17 hectares of vines across the Côte including holdings in Echezeaux, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin and Bonnes Mares.

A natural approach is taken in the vineyard and cellar with the estate moving from organic farming to fully biodynamic in the mid 2000s, receiving their certification in 2011. The team's focus is on elegance - temperatures are controlled to keep alcohol in check and also limit malolactic fermentation while juice from the crush is fed into the cellar by gravity only without the use of pumping. The wines of Domaine Dujac represent pure, balanced expressions of their respective terroirs.
