Domaine Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 2002 is a mature 1er Cru Burgundy Pinot Noir from the hallowed Vosne-Romanée appellation of the Côte de Nuits. The 1er Cru vineyard of Malconsorts is located on the border with Nuits-St-Georges, and immediately adjacent to La Tâche. In good vintages, it is considered by many Burgundy lovers to be a Grand Cru in all but name. "Discreet wood frames the elegant floral hints that combine with earth, plum and cassis aromas. There is excellent purity to the pure, detailed and focused middle weight flavours that are still quite powerful and robust on the mineral-driven and impressively long finish that displays just a hint of acid tang. This is quite masculine in character and while it could certainly be approached now with pleasure I would suggest holding it for another 2 to 4 years first. "Burghound, 2017

Domaine Sylvain Cathiard

This small, family run domaine was first established in the commune of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy by Sylvain Cathiard’s grandfather. Since 2011, following the retirement of Sylvain, the domaine has been run by Sylvain's son, Sébastien Cathiard. Famed for the superb quality Pinot Noir it produces, the domaine has vineyard holdings across Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-St-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny, in addition to tiny holdings in Clos Vougeot and Romanée-St-Vivant.

In the words of esteemed critic, Neal Martin, "“Do I need to tell you how much I adore Sylvain Cathiard’s wines? This is a seriously good quality producer of Vosne-Romanée, one whose star is in the ascendant. These are gloriously silky smooth, complex wines; not just with the top Premier Crus but down to the generic Burgundy. It’s the intensity and focus that set Cathiard apart, wines with supreme definition and purity that seduce the palate like a beautiful courtesan. I would love to taste his Grand Crus, but they are incredibly rare and sought-after. This producer comes highly recommended from top to bottom.”
