Domaine Leroy Volnay Santenots du Milieu 2014 is a red Burgundy crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, representing the unique terroir of the Santenots du Milieu Premier Cru vineyard. The domaine, managed by Lalou Bize-Leroy, is known for its strict biodynamic practices and meticulous attention to detail. The 2014 vintage was marked by challenging conditions, yet it delivered wines characterised by freshness and precision. This bottle reveals intricate notes of dark fruits, subtle floral elements, and a pronounced minerality, suggesting potential for extended ageing and complexity with time.

One of the highlights in this lineup, the 2014 Volnay Santenots du Milieu is a total knock-out. Soaring aromatics lead into a core of dark-toned fruit in a powerful, brooding Volnay. The Santenots is endowed with serious palate intensity and gravitas from start to finish. Scents of smoke, licorice and exotic spices round things out in style. The 2014 Santenots is a big wine within the context of Volnay, and yet all the elements are deftly balanced. Lalou Bize-Leroy reports that there was quite a bit of hail in 2014. And the wine? It is superb. It's as simple as that.

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
