Veuve Clicquot Vintage 1995 is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from a classic and structural Champagne vintage. The 1995 growing season provided fruit with concentration and a firm acidic frame. Now fully mature, the profile exhibits complex notes of toasted brioche, honey, dried apricots and roasted nuts. Following extended maturation in the house’s chalk cellars, the palate is broad and vinous with a fine, integrated mousse. It possesses a persistent mineral drive and a long, savoury finish that highlights the Pinot Noir-driven style of the house.

Pear, peach, lemon zest and warmed nuts on the nose; showed soft citrus notes of orange and tangerine with aeration. Fresh, frothy and bright, with a fairly full dosage and strong fruit. A large-scaled Champagne, but strong acidity keeps it brisk and firm. Long, lemony aftertaste. Really blossomed in the glass.Stephen Tanzer1st November 2001

The 'Grande Dame' of Champagne

Founded in Reims in 1772, Veuve Clicquot is one of the largest Champagne houses. The famous Madame Clicquot is credited with many innovations during her tenure as head of the house in the early 1800s - introducing vintage-dated Champagne, inventing the process of riddling to ensure a clearer wine and developing the rosé Champagne produced through blending. Madame Clicquot is also credited with helping to popularise Champagne with high society in Europe during the Napoleonic wars.

The non-vintage is fresh and crisp with ripe fruit balancing citrussy zing while the vintage offerings are richer, fuller and more complex with notes of toasted brioche, almond and crushed green apple. La Grande Dame is the house's prestige cuvée - made only in exceptional years, the Champagne is produced using wines selected from Veuve Clicquot's Grand Cru vineyard holdings.
