Vérité is a highly regarded winery in California, known for producing exquisite, terroir-driven wines that reflect the unique character of Sonoma County. Le Désir is one of their flagship wines, and it is predominantly a Cabernet Franc blend, often complemented by other Bordeaux varietals such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Expect notes of blackcurrants, blackberries and plums, complemented by violets, sweet spices, hints of tobacco and graphite. The wine is presented here in a half-bottle format.
97 Robert Parker
Composed of 82% Cabernet Franc, 12% Merlot and 6% Malbec, the 2018 Le Désir was aged for 16 months in 100% new French oak. Deep garnet-purple in color, it is a little closed to begin, soon unfurling to offer glimpses at notes of kirsch, raspberry preserves and mulberry scents, plus hints of cedar chest, crushed rocks, bay leaves, Sichuan pepper and lavender with a waft of sandalwood. The medium to full-bodied palate has tons of freshness to support the melange of preserved red and black fruits, textured by grainy tannins, finishing with a lingering peppery kick. It may require just a little more time to come around than the La Joie and La Muse, and then I suspect this beauty is going to reward the patient. — Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 30th July 2021
97 Jane Anson
Cabernet Franc dominant, with touches of raspberry leaf, rosemary and sage, mouthwatering acidities. A lovely tension and grip runs right through the palate. Floral edged with peony and curled woodsmoke highlights the depth through the core. Deftly made by Pierre Seillan, showcasing an excellent lightness of touch without sacrificing tension, and for me the most successful of the three in this vintage.Jane Anson6th October 2021

82% Cabernet Franc, 12% Merlot, 6% Malbec.Deep ruby colour. Brilliant nose: graphite, cedar, red flowers, bright fruit and then a fullness of spice and fleshy darker cherry. The palate follows, bringing bright crunch and seductive flesh in equal measure. Deep and expansive through the mid-palate. Layers of spice are both sweet and savoury – with the woody herbal notes of Cabernet Franc very impressive. Harmonious, elegant and long. A brilliant example of this underappreciated variety! Vinous
For the first time ever, Le Désir is 100% Cabernet Franc in 2018. Vivid and brilliant in the glass, Le Désir bristles with energy. A vivid array of dark fruit, leather, spice, licorice, chocolate and espresso captivates all the senses. The 2018 Le Désir is a very special wine in the making. Antonio Galloni1st January 2020

Bordeaux via Sonoma County

A true visionary, Jess Jackson’s lengthy career, which spanned more than 30 years, was driven by a passion for producing extraordinary wine from California’s best vineyards. Jackson had longed to create a wine that would be just as good as the world’s best wines and was confident that the terroir in Sonoma County had that potential. Teaming up with Bordeaux winemaker Pierre Seillan, the duo created Vérité - a project with the aim of making some of the world's greatest Cabernet Sauvignon.

As Pierre approaches retirement, the reins are being passed to his daughter Hélène Seillan, who grew up in Sonoma County and Saint-Émilion, studying Viticulture and Oneology at the Institut Rural de Vayres in Bordeaux. Hélène is set to build on the work of her father and Jess Jackson - crafting Bordeaux-inspired Cabernet with poise and precision.
