Established in 1998 by visionary winemaker Pierre Seillan, Vérité is a highly acclaimed Californian estate located in Sonoma County. Renowned for its meticulous craftsmanship and terroir-driven philosophy, Vérité specializes in producing Bordeaux-style blends that exhibit exceptional depth, elegance and complexity. ‘La Joie’ is generally dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with a varying proportion of Merlot and occasionally other Bordeaux varietals such as Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The absence of significant heat spikes in 2018 and a generally favourable weather pattern contributed to the production of high-quality wines across various regions in California.
98 Robert Parker
Composed of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec, the 2018 La Joie displays an opaque purple-black color, slowly unfurling to offer profound notes of crème de cassis, preserved plums and boysenberries, with hints of rare beef, pencil lead, black olives and lilacs, plus touches of fertile loam and crushed rocks. The medium-bodied palate has jaw-dropping elegance and poise, featuring a solid backbone of firm, very fine-grained tannins and bold freshness to support the intense mineral-laced black fruit layers, finishing long with loads of savory and floral sparks. Simply breathtaking! — Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 30th July 2021

Plump damson flavours, touches of oak grilling, vanilla bean, chocolate shavings and tobacco, feels confident and powerful with an uptick through the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon dominant, but these are fully ripe Cab flavours, richly textured berry fruits without a hint of green. The precision, and the carefully placed tannins become clearer as it opens, so make sure you leave it in a carafe for a good few hours if drinking any time soon. 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec.Deep ruby-purple. Earthy and savoury on the nose. The oak is meaty and rich, slightly dominating the fruit for now but there is a depth of cassis underneath that should integrate in time. Deep, succulent blackcurrant on the palate is evidence of this. There is energy and drive to this wine, despite its fleshy flamboyance. Just a hint of warmth on the palate knocks my impression a little, but there is certainly real potential for this to improve in bottle and I would be intrigued to see this wine at a decade old. The 2018 La Joie exudes class from the very first taste. Firm underpinnings of structure provide a gorgeous framework that wraps around a core of intense dark fruit. Lavender, sage, mint and grilled herb accents exalt the aromatic intensity of Cabernet Sauvignon. Antonio Galloni1st January 2020

Bordeaux via Sonoma County

A true visionary, Jess Jackson’s lengthy career, which spanned more than 30 years, was driven by a passion for producing extraordinary wine from California’s best vineyards. Jackson had longed to create a wine that would be just as good as the world’s best wines and was confident that the terroir in Sonoma County had that potential. Teaming up with Bordeaux winemaker Pierre Seillan, the duo created Vérité - a project with the aim of making some of the world's greatest Cabernet Sauvignon.

As Pierre approaches retirement, the reins are being passed to his daughter Hélène Seillan, who grew up in Sonoma County and Saint-Émilion, studying Viticulture and Oneology at the Institut Rural de Vayres in Bordeaux. Hélène is set to build on the work of her father and Jess Jackson - crafting Bordeaux-inspired Cabernet with poise and precision.
