Vérité was founded in 1997 by the late visionary Jess Jackson and long-time Bordeaux vigneron, Pierre Seillan. In just over 20 years, the winery has managed to forge a reputation for itself as one of the most consistent producers of elite level fine wine from Sonoma County, California. They produce just three wines - La Muse, La Joie and Le Désir - all of which are based on the traditional varieties of Bordeaux.

La Joie is made in the mould of the great wines of Pauillac and the Left Bank. 2015 was widely regarded as a superb vintage and this is a brooding and structured, yet remarkably deeply fruited wine composed of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot.

Vérité's 2015 La Joie is deep, powerful and structured, with tons of Cabernet savoriness running through a core of intense, dark fruit. Grilled herbs, leather, menthol and licorice all develop in the glass. Sumptuous and yet also structured, La Joie is another winner from Vérité. Antonio Galloni1st April 2018

Seillan said that 2015 (which was still in barrel at the time of my tasting) was the finest vintage of his lifetime, which is strong praise indeed. Certainly, he has three titanic wines aging in the wine cellars. The 2015 La Joie (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot) has an intensity that is off the charts, and that’s saying something, given how concentrated these wines tend to be. An enormous, colossal example of wine, with an opaque purple color and an intense nose of black fruits, camphor, forest floor and graphite, the wine is super-pure, very full-bodied, with intense levels of glycerin and richness. The finish goes on for a good 60+ seconds. This should turn out to be utterly profound. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2050+.Robert Parker28th October 2016

Bordeaux via Sonoma County

A true visionary, Jess Jackson’s lengthy career, which spanned more than 30 years, was driven by a passion for producing extraordinary wine from California’s best vineyards. Jackson had longed to create a wine that would be just as good as the world’s best wines and was confident that the terroir in Sonoma County had that potential. Teaming up with Bordeaux winemaker Pierre Seillan, the duo created Vérité - a project with the aim of making some of the world's greatest Cabernet Sauvignon.

As Pierre approaches retirement, the reins are being passed to his daughter Hélène Seillan, who grew up in Sonoma County and Saint-Émilion, studying Viticulture and Oneology at the Institut Rural de Vayres in Bordeaux. Hélène is set to build on the work of her father and Jess Jackson - crafting Bordeaux-inspired Cabernet with poise and precision.
