Vega Sicilia Pintia 2004 is an exceptional wine from the Toro DO, a region where the estate’s expertise shines through. Crafted from old-vine Tinta de Toro, the wine exhibits aromas of ripe black fruit, liquorice, and earthy tobacco. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with concentrated flavours of blackberry, plum, and hints of vanilla from oak. The wine is structured, with smooth tannins and a fresh acidity that provides balance. The finish is long, mineral-driven, and persistent, demonstrating Pintia`s remarkable ageing potential and the estate’s commitment to excellence.

While Vega Sicilia does own the Pintia brand, it is specifically from the Toro DO (Denominación de Origen), rather than being a part of their flagship wines made at Vega Sicilia`s original estate in Ribera del Duero. Pintia is considered a separate project

Saturated ruby. Intensely perfumed, expansive aromas of dark berries, kirsch, oak spices and mocha, with a suave mineral undercurrent. Rich, focused dark berry and cherry flavors are framed by strong but harmonious tannins and complicated by notes of dark chocolate, candied violet and vanilla bean. Lush and sweet on the impressively sappy, long finish. Although I'm confident that this will age well, it's mighty delicious now.

Spain's 'First Growth'

Located in Ribera del Duero, Vega Sicilia was founded in 1864 by Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves, who established the vineyards with cuttings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec taken from the vineyards of Bordeaux. The estate planted Tempranillo alongside these Bordelais varietals, which now makes up the majority of the modern Vega Sicilia blend.

The flagship wines are Unico and Unico Reserva Especial - the former is aged for 10 years before release while the latter is a blend of only the finest vintages. Valbuena 5 is the estate's 'entry level' wine, a five year aged Tempranillo. Alongside Vega Sicilia, the same team also manage Bodegas Alion in Ribera del Duero and Bodegas Pintia in Toro.
