Vacqueyras Les Restanques de Cabassole 2022 from Domaine Toumba is a Grenache-dominant red from the Southern Rhône. Sourced from high-altitude terraces with stony, clay-limestone soils, the wine reflects a unique structural focus and aromatic clarity. The 2022 vintage captures a vibrant profile of black raspberries, lavender, liquorice and cracked black pepper. Following traditional fermentation and maturation in neutral vessels, the palate is succulent and broad with fine-grained, energetic tannins. It possesses a high natural acidity and a persistent mineral finish that highlights the estate’s commitment to precision over heavy extraction.

The 2022 Vacqueyras les Restanques de Cabassole is a superb showing from this estate, delivering a powerful yet refined expression of Vacqueyras. A blend of 60% Grenache Noir, 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre grown on marl, clay and calcareous sand soils, it offers up a deeply aromatic bouquet of crushed violets, wild spices, Timut pepper and ripe black fruits. Full-bodied and layered, it’s built around a dense, fleshy core of fruit, framed by velvety tannins and energized by a bright spine of acidity. Despite its concentration, the wine never feels heavy, concluding with a saline, ethereal finish that speaks to its underlying finesse. This is a serious Vacqueyras with depth, drive and aging potential.

The perfumed 2022 Vacqueyras Les Restanques de Cabassole dazzles with orange rind, ripe raspberry, strawberry and spicy accents. Full-bodied, round and juicy, this is a delicious young red Vacqueyras with a long finish and bright future. I can’t wait to taste it from bottle.Nicolas Greinacher24th October 2024
