Domaine Vacheron`s 2022 Sancerre Les Romains is a dry white wine crafted from a single vineyard of biodynamically cultivated Sauvignon Blanc within the Sancerre appellation in the Loire Valley. With biodynamic certification dating back to 2005, Domaine Vacheron stands among the forefront producers in Sancerre. Their approach involves minimal intervention in the cellar, including spontaneous fermentation and abstention from fining or filtering. This method aims to preserve the distinct terroir character of Sauvignon Blanc grown in the region`s prized, flinty silex soil.

The 2022 Les Romains is a focused Sancerre with ripe flesh on the core and mid-palate. Its straight, firm corridor of structure is oh-so flint on the finish, providing grip and power.

Purity and Complexity

Domaine Vacheron is a well-established Sancerre domaine justly celebrated for its high-quality, terroir-focused Pinot Noirs and Sauvignon Blancs. Established more than 120 years ago and now run by a new generation of vignerons - the forward-thinking cousins Jean-Dominque and Jean-Laurent Vacheron – Domaine Vacheron has been certified biodynamic since 2005.

While Sauvignon Blanc accounts for about three-quarters of the domaine’s vineyard holdings, Pinot Noir is a keen focus for the cousins, who as well as farming a small plot within the famous Les Romains vineyard, have begun acquiring plots in across other coveted lieux-dits in the appellation, including Guigne Chèvre, En Grands Champs, Paradis and Chambrates.

Burgundian winemaking (with a focus on single vineyards and subtle variations in terroir), very low yields and the special silex-based soils of the majority of the family’s vineyard plots are all factors in Domaine Vacheron’s fine output. These are wines of extraordinary purity and longevity which seem to get better with every new vintage.
