Bibi Graetz Testamatta 2007 is a red wine from Tuscany made from old-vine Sangiovese. On the nose, it displays aromas of black cherry, leather and sandalwood with hints of dried herbs and iron. The palate is full-bodied and powerful with plush tannins that have softened over the years to provide a velvet texture. This wine was aged for roughly 20 months in French oak barriques which added layers of cocoa and sweet spice to the ripe fruit profile.

Graetz’s 2007 Testamatta is soft and seamless as it flows onto the palate, revealing a silky, luxurious expression of fruit. The tannins are remarkably soft and well balanced, which makes the 2007 one of the most accessible young Testamattas I can recall tasting. Floral tones on the finish add a touch of brightness and lift on the close. While the 2007 isn’t overly complex or powerful, it does offer superb balance and delivers plenty of pleasure, even at this early stage. This is first-class juice. Anticipated maturity. 2010-2022. - Antonio Galloni

(14% alcohol): Inky ruby. Underbrush, coffee and inky nuances complicate dark berry aromas. More dark fruits on the palate, along with strong herbal and cedary notes. Much less fruity than the 2009 version, although this is larger-scaled and more full-bodied. The finish features ripe, chewy tannins and good length.Ian d'Agata1st July 2012
