Terlano Quartz Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is a white wine from the Alto Adige region of Italy. Terlano is celebrated for its precise linear white wines, with the Quarz label sourced from quartz-rich soils that contribute intense minerality and complexity. This wine displays a highly aromatic profile, offering concentrated aromas of elderflower, passionfruit, lime zest and wet stone. The palate is textural and intense, showcasing purity and a powerful mineral-driven acidity.

The Cantina Terlano 2023 Alto Adige Terlano Sauvignon Quarz (with 55,000 bottles made) offers a slightly softer and less exuberant interpretation of the grape compared to the Winkl, which is all about brightness and primary fruit. The Quarz shows more depth and complexity thanks to a focus on fruit exclusively from steep vineyards (with 10% to 40% inclines at 300 to 550 meters in elevation). It sees a slow ferment with controlled temperatures, and it ages on the fine lees for nine months in a combination of large oak cask and stainless steel.
94 Vinous
The 2023 Sauvignon Quarz is remarkably lifted and refined in this vintage, as crushed limes, young kiwis and mint are complicated by a whiff of flint. This is a model of purity, like drinking liquid rocks, with a stern mineral core and cooling acidity that propels its citrus-spiked orchard fruits. A pretty inner sweetness lingers, offset by a sour twang as hints of green melon fade, leaving a salty tinge and the palate salivating for more. This is a riveting expression of Quarz. 50% was fermented in 30-hl Stockinger French oak casks of 7–11 years old while 50% was fermented in stainless-steel tank.Pale brilliant straw. Lifted nose of greengage with just hints of gooseberry and saline notes. Greengage and lemon palate with mouth-watering acidity but this is not austere or thin at all. A minerally and original expression of Sauvignon Blanc on granite soils. (WS)

Traditional wines from Alto Adige

Established in 1893, Cantina Terlano has grown to become one of South Tyrol’s most respected wine cooperatives, now comprising 143 dedicated growers. Since the beginning, both the winery and its members have pursued an unwavering commitment to quality, a reputation that has earned Cantina Terlano widespread acclaim both in Italy and across international markets.

Despite its modest size, the estate has firmly secured its place among the world’s notable wine producers. Today, the winery produces a range of wines, with approximately 70% white and 30% red. A significant cellar expansion in 2009 increased storage capacity to 18,000 cubic metres, allowing wines to mature in optimal conditions. Architecturally, the building blends seamlessly with the landscape, featuring a red porphyry façade, echoing the unique soils of the region, and a vineyard-planted rooftop.

Wines are released under two main categories: the classic range and the premium Selections, along with a rare release aged for a decade or more—an exceptional expression of the estate’s dedication to longevity and refinement.
