The 2004 vintage in Champagne was outstanding, yielding a variety of refined wines that were suitable for both immediate enjoyment and long-term ageing. The 2004 Taittinger offers a pronounced nuttiness reminiscent of marzipan and chestnut on the nose. It features a gentle mousse and mild acidity, presenting a creamy texture with hints of ripe, almost dried apricot and mineral undertones.

(L1051M202200): Bright gold. Orchard fruit and citrus zest aromas are complicated by notes of honeysuckle, baking spices and candied ginger. Juicy and focused on the palate, with very good depth and clarity to its pear, quince and orange flavors. The spicy note builds with air and carries through a long, sappy, linear finish. The aging curve for this wine looks to be pretty long.Josh Raynolds1st November 2011

A Family Business

The Taittinger family have been running their eponymous Champagne house since 1932. One of the last family-owned houses in Reims, the brand has a reputation for quality-driven vintage and non-vintage Champagnes. Sourcing fruit from over 35 vineyards sites, the team produce a range of styles including an elegant non-vintage, two sweeter Champagnes in the form of Nocturne and Demi-Sec and a Grand Cru-based non-vintage.

The Taittinger family's Prestige Cuvée is Comtes de Champagne, first produced in 1952. This Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay) is produced using fruit from five different Grand Cru sites across the Côte de Blancs. An aromatic, full-bodied Champagne with notes of citrus oil and green apple in youth, Comtes de Champagne ages superbly, with time in the bottle revealing notes of toasted hazelnut and a creamy richness.
