Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rosé 2009 is a vintage-dated rosé Champagne from Maison Taittinger in Reims. Comte de Champagne is Tattinger`s prestige cuvée and is made entirely from grapes sourced from the best vines in the prestigious Côte des Blancs and Montage de Reims regions. This 2009 rosé expression is produced from 70% Chardonnay (a high proportion of this variety being Taittinger`s signature) and 30% Pinot Noir grapes, a small proportion of which were matured in new oak barrels. Only the free run juice was used. "A beautiful colour of bronze and orange with some pink at the end. Aromas of dried strawberry and orange peel with orange blossom and other flowers. Medium to full body with a round, creamy texture, very fine bubbles and a lovely, long finish. Plenty of subtle pie-crust and biscuit flavours at the end. Yet it remains so complex. Very vinous." The 2008 Comtes de Champagne Rosé is bright, steely and finely chiseled right out of the gate. It shows quite a bit or energy and also more overall tension than the Blanc today. It will be interesting to see how the 2008 ages, and if the fruit ever emerges. I suspect the 2008 will always remain a rather nervous Rosé, even if it is quite striking today. Crushed red berry fruit, mint, chalk and white pepper build into a finish supported by bright, salivating acids and plenty of steely minerality. Antonio Galloni30th November 2022

Tasted as part of their Futurothèque project. wines not yet released. Three months’ disgorgement.Pale garnet. Smoky nose. Lots to chew on. Still quite astringent at the end of strawberry fruit but it should blossom beguilingly eventually. (JR)

A Family Business

The Taittinger family have been running their eponymous Champagne house since 1932. One of the last family-owned houses in Reims, the brand has a reputation for quality-driven vintage and non-vintage Champagnes. Sourcing fruit from over 35 vineyards sites, the team produce a range of styles including an elegant non-vintage, two sweeter Champagnes in the form of Nocturne and Demi-Sec and a Grand Cru-based non-vintage.

The Taittinger family's Prestige Cuvée is Comtes de Champagne, first produced in 1952. This Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay) is produced using fruit from five different Grand Cru sites across the Côte de Blancs. An aromatic, full-bodied Champagne with notes of citrus oil and green apple in youth, Comtes de Champagne ages superbly, with time in the bottle revealing notes of toasted hazelnut and a creamy richness.
