Comtes de Champagne Rosé is only produced in exceptional vintages. It is made from 70% Pinot Noir from Grands Crus in the Montagne de Reims and 30% Chardonnay from Grands Crus in the Côte des Blancs. The 2007 is quite simply a stunning release. It is deep, concentrated and tightly coiled with a long life ahead of it.

The 2007 Comtes de Champagne Rosé is a very pretty wine to drink now and over the next two decades. Soft and inviting, with good energy, the 2007 is impeccable in its balance. Crushed red berry fruit, blood orange, cinnamon, rose petal and mint all meld together in this gracious, mid-weight Rosé from Taittinger. At times, the 2007 is generous, while at other moments, it is more classically austere in bearing. It will be interesting to see where things ultimately settle.Antonio Galloni30th November 2022

Futurothèque project. not yet released, but next in line. The current vintage, 2006, is available in methuselah. This is Taittinger’s rarest wine. The aim is to produce a balance of the energy of Chardonnay and the best Pinot Noir. They say it’s a game between the ageing of these two varieties. The 30% Pinot Noir proportion is being reduced. They always release rosé Comtes after white Comtes. Deep strawberry pink. Smells of ash and sweetness – not as refreshing as some Comtes. Big and bold – not quite as refined as the white Comtes. Real grip, and some sweetness, on the end. (JR)

A Family Business

The Taittinger family have been running their eponymous Champagne house since 1932. One of the last family-owned houses in Reims, the brand has a reputation for quality-driven vintage and non-vintage Champagnes. Sourcing fruit from over 35 vineyards sites, the team produce a range of styles including an elegant non-vintage, two sweeter Champagnes in the form of Nocturne and Demi-Sec and a Grand Cru-based non-vintage.

The Taittinger family's Prestige Cuvée is Comtes de Champagne, first produced in 1952. This Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay) is produced using fruit from five different Grand Cru sites across the Côte de Blancs. An aromatic, full-bodied Champagne with notes of citrus oil and green apple in youth, Comtes de Champagne ages superbly, with time in the bottle revealing notes of toasted hazelnut and a creamy richness.
