With a history that can be traced back to the 17th century, Château Saint-Pierre is one of the smallest wine-producing estates in all of Saint-Julien. Today the vineyard covers approximately 17 hectares planted to 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. This release is from the 2008 vintage, a stylish, full-bodied wine with a high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. Expect fruit density, firm tannins and mouth-watering acidity.

Serious medium ruby. Very ripe aromas of cassis, minerals and licorice. Ripe and thick on entry, then concentrated but rather backward in the mid-palate, with a firm mineral spine and sound acids giving lift and shape to the fully ripe dark fruit and licorice flavors. This builds impressively on the back end, finishing with serious but ripe tannins that reach the front teeth. I'd lay this down for six or seven years.

Mid healthy crimson. Looks very exciting! Sweet and light on the nose. Unctuous, great texture and very seductive but perhaps not the most typical St-Julien. Just a little awkward with the sweetness and acidity not married – yet. A certain inkiness. (JR)
