Château Sociando-Mallet produces full-bodied wines with a deep, dark colour. Their complex bouquet is usually dominated by black fruit aromas with a touch of minerality and well-integrated, elegant oak. Here is the millennium vintage, described by critic Robert Parker as "A breathtakingly beautiful Sociando-Mallet with a dense ruby/purple colour and a bouquet of ink, mineral, graphite, vanilla, and crème de cassis".

The 2000 Sociando-Mallet has long been a controversial wine, and a couple of recent encounters explain why it was omitted from the vertical at the château. It is simply underripe and vegetal on the nose, a simple case of picking too early. That vegetal element translates across onto the palate and mars what ought to have been a great Sociando-Mallet. Caveat emptor. Tasted from a bottle from my own personal cellar. Neal Martin1st March 2019

Cabernet Sauvignon 55%, Merlot 40%, Cabernet Franc 5% Very dark crimson. Intense and fragrant and really rather hauntingly evolved on the nose. Intense cassis and minerals. Very neat and well balanced and complete. This is showing beautifully now. Lovely stuff – not over the top. Classic (ripe) claret. Well done! Bought at the Christie`s auction of 2000s recently.(JR)
